United Automobile Insurance Company was founded in 1989 as an affiliate of the Safeway Insurance Group. In 1997, current ownership spun UAIC out of the Safeway Insurance Group and shortly thereafter acquired Argus Fire & Casualty Insurance Company, the group's homeowners affiliate. Based in North Miami Beach, Florida, United Automobile Insurance Group is currently writing business in Florida, Illinois, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Mississippi. UAIG also holds licenses in Louisiana, South Carolina and Utah. Through disciplined underwriting, superior claims management and experienced leadership, UAIG has realized tremendous growth and favorable underwriting results in recent years. While Florida remains the largest market ( approximately 85% of sales ), management is confident that the diversification into other states will experience similar success.
